Family Sanctuary
Day ArchitectsThis 1970s mid century home renovation was designed with an adult family in mind, extending the existing dwelling to give parents space to relax and give teenagers a place to grow.
The extension added a new master bedroom, ensuite and second lounge.
The existing carport and storage was renovated to have a more architectural feel with contrasting brick and timber cladding.
With the client’s environmentally friendly brief in mind, all timber work, including decking was constructed from Abodo; a heat ‘treated’ New Zealand Pine that forgoes traditional chemical treatments.
To add challenge to the construction, the majority of the existing house was renovated piece by piece with the clients residing in the property through the entire process.
For the outdoor orientated family, emphasis was placed on the ‘alfresco’ living elements.
Leading out from the interior dining area is the poolside, modern cabana with a louvered roof system that allows control of the light and weather.
Wrapping around the pool is the Abodo deck and batten timber shading, bridging to the newly landscaped garden.
The renovated house is now a well loved home, a space for family, friends and neighbours.
